Gest became an instant tv hit with the UK viewers when he triumphantly came out of the jungle on ‘I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!'. The British and Australian viewers loved his zany character, stories and were impressed by his bravery. David Gest was the first American to have three prime-time television series in the UK in 2007: the highly rated This Is David Gest, Grease Is The Word and Greased Lightnin'. Gest just hosted a four hour prime-time television special for MTV entitled ‘ Michael Jackson All-Time Top 40 Greatest Hits' which will be seen throughout the UK and Europe in August to coincide with Jackson's 50 th birthday. Gest just starred on two episodes of ‘ Are You Smarter Than A Ten Year Old?' with Noel Edmonds which will be shown in the next month. He will also be seen as a special guest star in August on Channel 4's top rated ‘ Transmission' hosted by Steve Jones.
The play encompasses the story of Gest's life with comedy and music. It includes over twenty-five top 5 records, all performed by the original artists. In addition to that, there will be David's characters he made famous in the jungle when he appeared on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Gest will also be singing and dancing in numbers with a twelve member dance troupe, gospel choir and choral group. Prior to becoming a television celebrity, Gest was best known for producing ‘ Michael Jackson: 30 th Anniversary Celebration' which is the highest rated musical special in television history in the US and seven other countries.
According to Gest, “I am so excited about doing this tour. I had to postpone it when I got ill last December and took a few months off to recuperate. I am now fighting fit and having a great time producing this show. I am so thrilled this will finally take place. A few weeks ago I sang the closing number of my show to Whitney Houston at two in the morning. She told me she wasn't even sure if vocal lessons could help me! I told her she's just jealous!!!” According to Gest's good friend Peter Andre, “I was shocked watching David at rehearsals doing a double flip with his dancers. This is going to be an extraordinary tour and I believe people will be amazed at David's versatility as a performer just like they were after they saw him in the jungle.” Gest performed live last year before 12,000 on stage in Dublin with Westlife on their number one hit “Mandy” for which he got a standing ovation. According to Gest, “it was quite possibly the worst vocal in music history but one of the most exciting moments of my life!”
