Fairfield Halls - 22nd June 2004

This write up was done myself with the help of my daughter Lauren to jog my memory in places!

We arrived at Croydon in good time and parked in a nearby street. It was raining so we quickly headed for the Fairfield Halls, taking a slight detour to the backstage area to have a look around. There were a few girls waiting for Twen2y4Se7en and Peter Andre.

We went into the entrance hall and immediately noticed how 'posh' it all was for a pop concert, and it was also hosting an art exhibition at the same time. We went over to the merchandise stall and were recognised by the girl selling there from Colchester a few days earlier.

We generally wandered around the entrance part of the halls, handing out flyers to promote Peter until it was 7.30pm and we were allowed into the auditorium. The place quickly filled with excited fans, waiting for the arrival on stage of the man they had come to see - Peter Andre! We were on the fourth row, on the side block next to the aisle with the centre block.

At around 8pm, Twen2y4Se7en came running onto the stage to begin their set. They did the same songs as at Colchester plus one more which I can't remember the title of, and the lads seemed to recognise us from Colchester so we got lots of smiles and winks from them. Lauren was spotted by Andy which made her laugh. Some lucky girls on the front row in front of us were lucky enough to have Andy lean down to them to hold their hands.
Can you spot yourself?

The Fairfield Halls security was too over the top at this point and tried to make everyone remain seated, as soon as you stood up they rushed to you to tell you to sit down and also stopped us from taking photos. I thought this may have ruined the night, but I needn't have worried.

As they began the additional song, they shouted to us to all stand up. to the security mens horror! You should have seen their faces but this was the turning point of the show for us. We were there to have a good time and stuffy security men weren't going to spoil it! Twen2y4Se7en finished their set and left the stage to a lot of clapping and cheering.

Next up was Shakaya, and they were constantly smiling at us, maybe because we were the only ones at the front that were clapping along with them. They were the same as at Colchester but didn't get the crowd going like Twen2y4Se7en did.

A short interval followed when they finished their set and then it was almost time for Peter to come on the stage. During this interval I got permission from Peter's security men to take photos of him for the site.

The lights dimmed, the audience screamed and cheered as the musicans entered the stage. The starting music to Flava started up and within seconds Peter Andre appeared on the stage dancing along. He was dressed from head-to-toe in white, a top with a large red '50' on it in 'gangsta rap' style and white combats. He then went on to sing 'All Night All Right' from an earlier album. Before he went on to sing the next song, he explained that it was a cover song that was featured on his new album. He said it was originally done by one of his faveourite bands Kool & The Gang. It was Ooh La La La (Let's Go Dancing). People started to come down the aisles towards the stage but at this point security had them reasonable under control and they ended up being forced back to their seats. When the lights went on to reveal the audience in this song we looked up and around and in one of the boxes were two women and a little boy that could've been Katie, one of her friends and Harvey, but we couldn't see properly.

Hand shakes all round
Around about this point in the show Peter took his white top off to reveal a black vest top. There was lots of screaming as we didn't realise that he had a top on underneath it.
The show slowed down when Peter went back to the early stuff and sung I Feel You followed by a newer slow one - All Cried Out. Most of the audience had started to fill the aisles, pushing forward again, but it was a lot worse and security couldn't control it. Peter then got summoned off stage by 'Merv' the sercurity man. He then came on to the stage, told everyone to get back to their seats or Peter would not return for the rest of the show! This was met by lots of booing but to be honest it was quite a relief for us in the first few rows who were being pushed and shoved around. It took about five minutes for order to be restored and eventually Peter came back on stage for the rest of the show. He came back on, apologised saying it was his fault, but he would get everyone standing again for 'Natural' later on in the show, He then performed All About Us. As usual after this song he gave his, 'I can shake my ass but I'm no Ricky Martin' speech and did You Got Me Thinking which was met by loads of screams from the female members of the audience.
Dancing while singing to Natural
The next part of the show is 'Peter's favourite part' as he brings someone up on the stage out of the audience to sing Never Gonna Give You Up with or to, depending on if they knew the words. A young girl, about 12, went up on the stage, but she didn't know the words. So Peter sung to her and she looked like she was having a really good time, walking and dancing with him along the stage.

The next part of the show was where all the band members were included playing on their acoustic guitars. Peter and his brother Chris were singing a duet of The Eagles song Hotel California. Peter left the stage during Chris' guitar solo to change his outfit. He came back out in the silver outfit. He went back in time to his earlier stuff again by singing Lonely, which he said was very special to him as when he was feeling 'lonely' he wrote this song to 'get it all out'. He then followed this with Natural, which included the old style dancing and as promised earlier, everyone stood up and danced along. However this also meant there was more pushing down the aisles. So we sat on the backs of our chairs and got a great view, as people pushed into the aisles which meant the seats in front of us were empty.

Peter went on to sing another cover from one of his idols - Michael Jackson. he sung the Jackson 5 song Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground). He introduced the band, did some Michael Jackson style dancing including moonwalking and then said his 'goodbyes' and left the stage, with the band folllowing not long after.

About two minutes, after plenty of chanting and yelling, he came back on the stage wearing a yellow t-shirt and ripped jeans. He went straight into Untouchable, which is also on the new album. When he'd finished people were all gathered down by the stage desperate to grab hold of him or get their hand touched by him.
Next up was the success story of one of his more recent hits, the chart positions and how it did so well in it's third re-release. The song was Mysterious Girl. The whole of the Fairfield Halls were dancing and waving arms about while singing along to every word.

Again, after this song, he left the stage, only to quickly come back wearing the same jeans, but also his jungle fleece and hat. He spoke for a bit about his experience in the jungle, then went on to explain the idea behind Insania. This cued a lot of singing from the sudience and the start of Peter singing the final song - Insania. Everyone joined in with this one too. Peter undid his fleece and pulled his arm out of it to reveal some of that gorgeous body. This seemed to hype the crowd massively.

Near the end he went along to tag everyone's hands, but nearly ended up being pulled off the stage by over zealous fans. They had hold of his legs and for a few minutes I was quite scared for his safety. Despite him struggling to get his balance back and get on the stage properly, people were still trying to pull him off. He gave a shout and security quickly ran in and 'rescued' him, in my opinion they should have intervened earlier rather than waiting for the shout. Chris looked on with a worried expression on his face and all I could think was 'someone help him'.
