The Royal Albert Hall - 16th September 2004

This write up was sent in by Caroline Brown (Cazza) who won a competition to attend the Disney Awards.

On Wednesday 15th September the postman bought me a very nice present. I had won four tickets to the Disney Awards by entering a competition on the Hit40UK website. I had to rush about finding people to come with me and settled on two 11yr old McFly fans and my mother! Not the best combination but the awards were tomorrow and I was desperate!

When we got there on the day it was about 5.50pm. The awards started at 6.30pm. I heard a lot of screams and flashing lights and realised there was a red carpet with the celebrities parading down it! I looked over some girls heads and found the Phixx boys were going in. After a quick photo taken on my phone of Chris Parks we decided to get a better spot further down.

Next came Girls Aloud. They were happy to sign stuff even though Cheryl wasn’t too impressed to be told by girls in front of us telling her that she needed to pull up her dress because they could see her knickers!

Next were the McFly boys. They were pleasant and after having photos taken by the press they went back to the beginning of the fans and had photos and did autographs for them.

At this point I heard an ‘Oh my god it’s Peter Andre and Jordan' followed by ‘Aww they have the baby with them’

Then ‘He’s had all his hair shaved off!’ Excitement and panic swept over me! Was it Peter they were talking about? At this point I couldn’t see them because of the people in front of me. They were further down the carpet. They were ages getting down the carpet which I later heard was because of a certain incident with a reporter.

Then Peter and Katie walked towards us with Harvey in between them toddling along holding their hands. He is quite confident on his feet now. Peter and Harvey were in matching black suits with white shirts and both Katie and Peter were wearing Trilby hats. Michael, Peter’s brother was also accompanying them in a blue-ish suit. They looked like a proper little family and were very smiley.

They then stopped further down the end of the carpet where Peter took his hat off! Everyone gasped. Katie thought that was funny and stroked his head.

The press wanted more pictures so Peter bent down and with one arm scooped Harvey up. Harvey seems very comfortable with him and it is obvious they have formed a bond. Katie had some done individually then they wandered in as a family being very smiley and completely happy. They weren’t on the carpet for very long but I think this was for the sake of little Harvey.

We then decided to go inside and find our seats. We were in the circle. On our seats were free draw string bags with lots of Disney goodies in them. I was very pleased with my free Lilo and Stitch stuffed toy!

I could see the celebrities tables from where we were and I saw Peter and Katie taking their seats. Peter had Harvey on his lap and had his arm round Katie. That is how they stayed for the rest of the night. Bless them.

Before the show started there was a warm up guy who made us practice the swing low sweet chariot some. Uumm wonder who is going to win best captain!!!

Once the show started it was fantastic. They showed a clip of Peter in a monster truck trying to find a parking space which the kids loved! It was very well done. Then V opened the show with Can You Feel It. They had a lot of kids on the stage and there was a fantastic atmosphere.

The first award was for best single. Peter was nominated for Mysterious Girl but The Sugababes won. I thought this may have been a little set up because once they had received their award they went down onto the stage and performed.

They sang Hole In The Head which was what the award was for. It was funny because Mutya sung out of time in the first verse and asked if they could stop but they couldn’t because the cameras were rolling. They picked it up in the chorus though and for the televised show there was very clever editing which meant you didn’t see the mistake!

Second award was for best captain. And guess what…. Martin Johnson won so Sweet Chariot rained out around the hall.

Next award was for Best Male. Now I was hopeful here for Peter but unfortunately he lost out to Busted. Oh well!
Best newcomer was given to DJ Casper. He then performed the classic which is the Cha Cha Slide! Everyone in the royal albert hall was up off their seats doing it. What a tune!
Best Game was Harry Potter won Best Game. Apparently to the 11yr olds I was with said that was a good result!

Then it was Peter’s turn to perform. He started off by singing Mysterious Girl. He was wearing his white Giants top and a blue adidas cap worn backwards.

I was so pleased he sung live and everyone was doing the 'oh-oh’s'. He got some of the biggest cheers of the night. At one point he wandered down to where Katie was sitting and sang a part to her.

Once back on stage he was accompanied by a little girl who had run onto the stage. He grabbed her and sang to her for a bit. She didn’t seem too impressed and after a while ran off again!

Then he did the inevitable and took the hat off. Everyone screamed! He grabbed a microphone stand for the Right way and said something along the lines of: ‘As Harvey is here tonight I am going to sing his favourite. It’s a Harvey special….The Right Way.’ He was fantastic. It is a real shame that they cut the song for the televised version.

The next award went to Arsenal for best team followed by a performance of Love Machine by Girls Aloud.
Best 10 seconds of TV went to Dick and Dom. Thought that Katie might have won this for the Bug Fest but no such luck.

Best Female went to Rachel Stevens. I was pleased about that. Bit pre-meditated though because straight after she performed Some Girls and More, More, More.

During the result for best female Peter returned to his seat. He had taken ages! Think he was doing interviews. He had changed into his black jersey and a baseball cap. He took Harvey off of Katie and put him back on his lap and from where I was sitting it looked like a bit of snogging action was happening. For anyone that thinks Peter and Katie’s relationship is a publicity stunt I would advise you to sit in the same room as them for two hours and you will quickly gather it isn’t. They make a lovely couple. I saw DJ Casper go up to their table at one point in the evening. He knelt between the two of them and chatted to them for a few minutes. He knows them because he supported Peter on one of his tour dates earlier in the Summer.

Anyway…. Then the best film was announced. This was a bit predictable. Thought Shrek should have won but funnily enough Finding Nemo won which was a Disney Production! I thought this was fixed ever so slightly. Maybe I am being too cynical!

Finally the evening drew to an end with McFly winning Best Newcomer and performing That Girl and Colours In Her Hair. Coloured wigs were thrown out to the audience which looked funky!

All in all it was a great night. Very glad I went and as always Peter made the night fabulous. The Disney Channel put on a very good show and not a lot of it was edited out so everyone at home saw it like we did.
