Galaxy 102 & Manchester Uni - 2nd October 2004

This is Shayaan's write up from the show put on by Galaxy to celebrate Manchester University and UMIST merging to create one university. The show took place at Albert Square in Manchester and was titled 'ONE'!

The line up included Peter Andre, 411, Shola Ama, Lisa Scott Lee, 3 of a Kind, 2 Play, Kelly Llorenna, VS, LMC v U2, Jay Sean and Stonebridge.

I arrived at Albert Square in Manchester at 1pm. Peter wasn't due on stage for some time so I was in for a long wait! The first time I saw him was when I noticed him at the window of the Town Hall.

I really wanted to see him so I asked everyone that I could but they all said "no", so I went to the place where they park all the cars and waited there. Four hours later and a lady from Galaxy 102 Radio Station came out and said to me "You are a big fan aren't you? You have waited so long, come with me."

I followed her and she took me to the backstage area and I saw him sing 'Insania', 'Ooh La La La', 'Untouchable' and 'Mysterious Girl'.

After 'Insania' some idiots decided it would be clever to throw bottles and cans at Peter on the stage, but luckily none hit him. Peter looked quite annoyed and said "If you think you're men doing that, come here and I'll show you a man!" This stopped them!

When he had finished his performance I went over to the stairs where he left the stage and I shouted "Peter" to him and he came over to me with Katie.

He said "Hi" to me, and I said "Hi" back and then we talked for a bit. I showed him my jacket that I had his name and Insania stitched into and he said "Wow! That's wicked!" I asked him if he could sign my shirt and he said "Sure mate" and then he signed it with his name and "love ya". I then asked Katie if she would sign and she was also happy to do it and signed her name with kisses.

Katie's hair is blond again. I didn't manage to get any photos of her though because when Peter was on stage she stayed backstage with his brother, Mike.

Then it was time for them to go, so we said goodbye.

It was the best day of my life and I am going to have the shirt that they signed framed.

Peter addresses the minority of idiots in the crowd

This is from the Sunday People newspaper dated 3rd October. I have included this as it shows that Peter wasn't at fault and he put on a good performance. It was just a small minority part of the crowd who wanted to spoil things for the others.

From The Sun (4th October 2004)

SHAKEN Jordan told yesterday how she feared for boyfriend Peter Andre as he was pelted with bottles on stage.

Aussie singer Peter, 31, was targeted by thugs as he performed a concert for 500 young fans.

He continued the show despite a barrage of missiles, before being comforted by worried glamour girl Jordan.

She said: “It was horrible. Loads of young kids had waited all afternoon to see Peter, even though it was pouring with rain.

“But a bunch of drunken lads seemed determined to ruin it. They’d been causing trouble all afternoon.

“They began chucking bottles. I was really worried for the safety of people in the crowd, Peter’s two girl dancers — and, of course, scared for Peter himself.”

Peter — who fell for Jordan, 26, on TV’s I’m A Celebrity — was the main attraction at the open-air concert to mark the merger of Manchester’s two main universities when the yobs struck minutes into his act.

He battled on as they hurled bottles, coins and rubbish at the stage, even after he angrily asked them to stop.

He shouted at the yobs: “All of those throwing things at me can come round the back and we can see who the bigger man is.”

Peter said later: “I stopped the music and asked them to quit because it was dangerous. I was worried someone was going to get hurt if I didn’t say something.

“I went on and finished the show, though — and I’m glad I did.

“It was just a bunch of idiots who were drunk and aggressive. But they should have thought about all the kids who were there. It’s pathetic.”
