OK! Issue 444 - November 16th 2004

Jordan and Peter Andre have been the love story of the year. Since they met in the jungle for I'm A Celebrity...in January, their romance has captured the nation's hearts. Now, OK! is pleased to announce the beautiful couple are engaged - and busy planning the most spectacular, fairy-tale-wedding if all time.

OK! caught up with the celebrity pair in the penthouse apartment suite of a top London hotel. Dressed casually in tracksuits and jeans, Jordan, aka Katie Price, and Peter happily munched their way through two pots of jelly beans from their mini-bar while they lounged on the sofa, sharing their fantastic news. The interview gave them a chance to review the mad happenings of the last ten months and to look to the future with the most important person in their lives - Katie's adorable son Harvey.

Holding hands, teasing each other and referring to each other as 'gorgeous'. there's no doubt that this couple will continue to complement and charm each other for many years to come. Here, the glamorous husband and wife to be share their happy news and wedding plans, exclusively with OK!...

OK!: Congratulations - you're engaged.

Peter: Thank you very much - it's great to be able to share it with everyone!

OK!: Yours has been the love story of the year...

Katie: I wanted him.. it was so intense from the beginning. I gave him mixed messages in the jungle but I had to because it was live on television. As soon as we were off air, I sent him a note saying he completes me and I couldn't wait to see him, and then waited for the phone to ring.

Peter: I knew from the third day in the jungle that I was head over heels in love with her.

The happy couple announce their engagement

OK!: It's been very intense from the beginning, hasn't it?

Peter: We were both worried about game playing, and we kept missing each other's phone calls to start with. But as soon as we had a proper chat, we got the games out of the way and it's been great ever since.

OK!: When did you know you wanted to ask Katie to marry you?

Peter: It was something she said after the very first time we made love. In the morning she said: 'The only way this is going to work is if we never leave each other's side.' She wanted us to sleep in the same bed every night. No one had ever said that to me before. My biggest fear when I met Kate was that she'd want to go out drinking all the time, and I wouldn't want to go and we'd never see each other. So her saying that put my mind at rest and I saw another side to her. We've only spent three nights apart in the whole nine months we've been together.

Katie: Paul and Linda McCartney only spent a few nights apart during their whole marriage.

OK!:So how did Peter propose to you, Katie?

Katie: Well, I couldn't wait for him to ask. I'd asked him the day we came out of the jungle. And every day since I'd been saying: 'When are you going to ask me?' But when he finally asked me it was my birthday and it was a disaster. Put it this way, he was a right s**t to me!

OK!: Peter, you should take it from here...

Peter: I'd known for a few months that I wanted to marry Kate, and propose to her on a special day. So her birthday was the obvious choice, but how do make it special and not just about getting some presents? I decided to do a three-day celebration. On the Friday night,

I was going to give her a puppy. On Saturday, I was going to take her for lunch at the Savoy and then to see The Lion King because she'd never been to the theatre before. Then on the Sunday, would have woken up early and said: 'There was something I forgot,' and given her the engagement ring.

OK!: So why did it all go wrong?

Peter: Well, I got to the dog breeders too late to pick up the puppy and he ended up shouting at me and chasing me down the street. The police got involved, and I was kept with them for hours. She went to bed in a bad mood as she didn't know where I'd gone. Then on her actual birthday I had to do a kids' TV show in the morning, then a PA in the north in the evening...

Katie: I'd wanted him to book the day off because it was my birthday but he hadn't and all day he gave me s**t. he kept saying: 'You're not serious about me. Why don't you go off and do your Jordan thing then come back to me in a few years? I was saying: 'But I am serious!' I was so confused. I texted my friends saying: 'It's my birthday - why is he giving me grief?' I thought, stuff you! I spent the whole of my birthday in a car for him!

Peter: All her answers were what I wanted to hear. I just needed to hear her say them. I was about to ask her an important question and I needed to know it was the right thing to do.

Katie: Things did get a bit better after that. We ate at the Savoy - although it was too posh for me. I thought I was going to break the plates! But I'm a girlie-girl and I was thinking, haven't I even got a little something to open? A teddy bear. a card...

Peter: We had to rush because I was late leaving the TV studio and we had to get to The Lion King which was fab. But I was aware that it wasn't perfect and I had to do something special for her birthday. So when we got to the hotel in the evening, I stood with my hands behind my back and said: 'I can't hold it in any longer.' I'd asked the hotel in advance to decorate the room, and they'd left dozens of roses laid out in the shape of a heart on the bed and their was some chilled champagne. It sounds corny but it wasn't. It was cute. I got down on one knee, held out the ring box and just said: 'Will you?' I couldn't even get all the words out.

OK:! What was your reaction, Katie?

Katie: My heart was pounding and I was thinking, what are you doing? I started getting nervous because he was acting so strangely. He then asked me to marry him three times during the night so he could get the proposal exactly right . I said: 'Oh my God, yes!' I was overwhelmed. We drank pink champagne and admired my ring sparkling in the light.

OK!: Describe the ring for us...

Peter: I'd heard on the grapevine that she liked that sort of design. It is beautiful. It was specially made for us, so it is a one-off - it is a unique ring for Kate.

Katie: I wouldn't have cared if he'd only paid £3 - I just love having a ring of commitment from Pete.

Peter: Phew, that's a relief. It was actually £3.99 from the Argos catalogue!

OK!: Why did you keep your engagement so secret?

Katie: When we first got engaged, it was just for us. We didn't even tell our mums. It was a very private thing. The press were saying our whole relationship was just a publicity stunt, so I didn't want them saying our engagement was just a publicity stunt as well. We haven't confirmed we are engaged until now. Only you guys at OK! have known up until now, and now our close family know we can announce it. So when this interview comes out, it will finally let everyone know that we're truly in love. The biggest reason we kept it a secret was because Pete's mum hadn't met me. We also needed time for out relationship to grow. Our management tried to protect us the best they could, so that we could build a solid foundation and total trust, which we have.

OK!: Was it easy keeping it so secret?

Katie: It was a case of having to. But now I'm happy I can start wearing my ring.

Peter: We were engaged but it was just between us and it never became official until now. It would only become official when our parents knew. There is a Greek tradition that you give a 'logo' to someone, which means you promise to commit yourself to them in a pre-engagement, and that's what we did.

OK!: Why is now the right time to tell the world?

Katie: People are always going to say it's not going to last or we're doing it for publicity for the new TV series or something. But simply, we can't keep it in any longer! I want to start buying wedding magazines and shopping for dresses. I haven't been able to do any of that fun, girlie stuff. I am a girl and I want to get married.

OK!: Did you ever think you'd marry someone like Peter, Katie?

Katie : No, but it is true that when you've had Greek, you've hit your peak!

OK!: Really?!

Peter: Let's clear this up! I invented that and I want it to be quote of the year.

Katie: Well, I've definitely hit my peak - I've never seen anything like it! I take the 'acorn' comment back, that's for sure. You love it when I say that, don't you, Pete?

Peter: It is quantity, but it is quality as well.

Katie: But Pete has got a quite a big bum, haven't you Pete?

Peter: Er, Greek men also have big hearts, and are very loyal and passionate - and good cooks.

Katie: Yeah, you are a great cook, Pete.
Having fun
A kiss
OK!: Did Pete's family accept you straight away, Katie?

Katie: So many people tried to stick their noses in when we first started going out. They wanted to get in his pants so they a**e-licked his mother and told her awful stories about me, like I was into drugs and that I'd done porn. None of it's true. These girls told his mum that Dwight (Yorke) paid for my house but he has never given me a penny - not even towards Harvey.

Peter: My parents were just concerned for me. I may be a 31-year-old man but I'm still their baby. My parents have just heard too many divorces in Western countries and heard some things about Katie, so they would have at first liked me to marry a good Greek girl. But now they've got to know Katie, and they know she makes me happy - they accept our engagement completely.
Katie: What was it your dad said before he met me?

Peter: He said: 'You said you'd never go out with a woman with a child, you didn't like blondes and didn't like silicon implants - and you've gone for all three!' But you can't help who you fall in love with. She isn't my usual type . I usually like Middle Eastern-looking women and black girls, but this makes it more flattering to Kate she's totally different to all the other girls I've dated. But it was her personality, plus the fact she's stunning, that made me fall in love.
Bedtime cuddles

Katie: I went to Cyprus to meet his parents a few months ago and I was really scared because I knew his mum didn't approve of me, and Pete really looks up to his mum. He says she's normally right about things and he wouldn't want to upset her. There's nothing worse that if your parents hate your other half so it was really important to get their approval. But I arrived with Harvey and it was great. They loved Harvey and me.

OK!: Are Katie's parents happy you're engaged, Peter?

Peter: A short while ago, I went to Kate's mum and stepdad and asked for their blessing. Kate didn't know I was going to do that but it was important to do it. It was beautiful. I showed them the ring and Amy, Kate's mum, loved it, so yes.

OK:! When are you going to tie the knot?

Katie: Sooner rather than later - we don't want to be engaged for long but it will be in about a year. We've got a lot of work commitments coming up, and we want to plan it really well so it's my perfect fairy-tale wedding. And I've already said to Peter that we should televise our wedding day because I've never seen a celebrity wedding.

OK!: Now you're getting married, will you be a proper father to Harvey, Pete?

Peter: Harvey is what sealed it for me.

Pete's turn for a kiss
For a guy who once insisted on not being with a girl with a child by a different man, it's Harvey who built the bridge between us. I am so in love with that child. I look at the mother and think, wow, she produced the most beautiful child. My commitment is to Harvey, not just to Kate.

Katie: He's not beautiful, he's cute. Harvey looks on Pete as a dad already. In fact, he's just started calling him Daddy. He doesn't say Mummy yet! It's good because Harvey needs a man around. I hope we have kids too.

OK!: Have you told Harvey's real father, Dwight Yorke, that you're marrying Pete?

Katie: He won't know until he reads this. I love Harvey and I wouldn't change him for anything, but the one regret I have is that I don't get on with the sperm donor I had with him - and I wish Pete was the dad. He calls Pete Daddy and I love it. I've got a stepdad and I look on him as my real father and that's what I have to remember. Blood doesn't matter. Anybody can fill a pram, but it takes a man to be a father. We're a unit. Pete's family love him like he's their own.

OK!: Will you be having an engagement party?

Peter: Yes, and OK! is invited! We'll have an amazing night for all our friends and family - people we really want to be there. We'll invite some celebrities, but only ones who we know are nice, genuine people. And we're taking 21 members of our family away on holiday to celebrate it with us. It will be so special.

OK!: What about your hen and stag nights?

Katie: We don't want them. We want to do something together. Maybe make a weekend of it with close friends.

All loved up!

OK!: Katie have you got a clear idea about the kind of wedding you want?

Katie: We both want to get married in England. We want it to be a big Disney wedding, something that hasn't been done before. I want something over the top - but not like Posh and Becks - that was pathetic. They were on a throne pretending to be a king and queen but I want a fairy-tale. like Cinderella, with baby blues and pinks....

Peter: She'll be the fairy princess. I'll be the ugly toad who scrubs up well for the day!

OK!: What will your dress be like, Katie?

Katie: I wouldn't do a Pamela Anderson and get married in a white bikini - what a waste. And I'm not getting my assets out - it's my one day to wear a dress. When I walk down the aisle, I want to make the Guinness World Of Records for the longest train in the world.

OK!: What song can you imagine having as your first dance?

Peter: There's a song by Anita Baker called Perfect Love Affair and the words to that song are amazingly true for us. You meet someone and you're not sure if it's right, but somehow it is.

OK!: Any ideas about a honeymoon?

Katie: Oh, I can't even think about all of that yet! But saying that, you can't beat the Maldives - I can't think of anywhere nicer than there.

Kate gets a kiss
OK!: How do you think marriage will change you? Do you have any lovers' tiffs at the moment?

Katie: We do argue but only over silly things . It's funny, if we sit at home watching television on the sofa holding hands, and I comment on a bloke with a good body, Pete doesn't like it and lets my hand go.

Peter: And you're very bossy!

Katie: I'm not bossy - I just get things done.

Peter: Between your engagement and your marriage is the time you get to iron out all the creases. It's when you really get to know someone.
OK!: Katie, has anyone ever proposed to you before?

Katie: Scott, my ex-boyfriend did. He was like a little lapdog on his knees with this ring on a teddy bear's paw, panting: 'Will you marry me?' I pretended not to notice. In my head I was thinking, get me away! I said yeah because he was a good habit to have around, but the ring was awful so he had to go back and change it for another one. But I never wore the ring on the correct finger and said don't tell anyone we're engaged because I have to look single for my career. He used to say to me: 'When are we getting married?' and I used to think, we're not.

OK!: When are you moving in together?

Katie: Now we're officially engaged Pete will be moving into my new house with me and Harvey. I've made room for him in my dressing room and I can't wait for his slippers to be with mine in the bedroom. We've paid halves on things so it feels like our home. It's ours to share.

OK!: Peter, did you like the recent OK! at home shoot with you, featured last week?

Peter: Beautiful. Very nice. I'm not as popular as Katie so I understand that Tracy Shaw was on the cover and not me.

Katie: Why? I don't like her. She's stuck up. She hates me too so I don't care if she reads this. And the other one is Amy Winehouse - or is it Whorehouse? She's been attacking me and she doesn't even know me.

OK!: Katie, have you spoken to Kerry McFadden since her marriage breakdown with Brian?

Katie: No, not at all. I don't know what's going on. I thought it looked bad on Brian, but I don't know the real story. Brian has been saying that they haven't been getting on for a year and a half but that doesn't make sense. In the jungle, Kerry was like: "Brian this, Brian that.' I saw Kerry slating me on This Morning saying I do anything for PR and that we won't last. In the jungle we got on fine but you have to. But there's no friends in this business - most of them will stitch you up.

OK!: Peter, how do you feel towards Brian?

Peter: The first thing Brian McFadden said to me when I got out of the jungle was: 'Stay away from her!' But that was never a problem - he thought he was being a friend. But recently on The Frank Skinner Show he moaned about regretting doing magazine shoots and that he and Kerry were young and people were throwing money at them. He's said that it was wrong for Kate to be in my video, but what a hypocrite. His two young daughters are in his new video!

OK!: Why are you announcing your engagement in OK!?

Katie: OK! is the only magazine where the answers to the questions are exactly what you say. All the other magazines lie. We trust OK! to tell it like it is

Dozing!

OK: What's your final message to our readers?

Katie: To those people who didn't believe in us, I don't really care. For those who do, thanks for sticking by us. It is real, it is fairy-tale and you all have the wedding to look forward to. I've met the best guy ever in my life and I hope to stay with him forever.

Peter: No, there's no hope involved. It's done.

Katie: If you can keep it in your pants it is!
