Colusseum - 29th June 2004

Peter Andre played an extra added tour date at the Watford Colusseum on Tuesday 29th June. The following write up and pictures are by Lauren Walker

The night didn’t start as well as planned for this concert, when we got about 7 miles from home and realised we had no tickets. So we had to go back to get them. No real harm done though, and we still had loads of time to get there and after that, everything ran smoothly, we beat the traffic and despite having to ask directions, got to the Colosseum in plenty of time having stopped for McDonalds on the way!

However the car park we parked in didn’t have clear signs as to what you were supposed to do. There was a barrier up, but no ticket machines so we asked a random man that was walking past us. He directed us to a space told us where to go, not before explaining that he was getting confused for a Car Park Attendant, but then revealing that he was just Peter Andre’s driver instead!
So thanks to him we managed to park up successfully and we weren’t clamped for the night.
The show starts

We queued up, got the tickets checked and wandered about for a bit before we went to find our seats. However it was incredibly boring, there wasn't much to see or do in the small entrance hall. My little brothers (ages 4 and 6) were there and getting restless as well. The only interesting thing we saw was the merchandise man being dwarfed by his desk and two girls running in screaming ‘Oh my god we just met him! He gave me a hug and two kisses and oh my god he said Happy Birthday to me!!!’
Well they soon got over that when they found the toilets…

Well about ten minutes before it was SUPPOSED to start we decided to go and find our seats. First impressions of the hall were ‘This place is empty…and eerie!’. It was a smallish Town Hall, with a metal equivalent of deck chairs for seats. There were no ushers to help find your seats. In fact the staff were pretty useless, so we had to find our own seats. Luckily I found them for us and they were correct.

For some other people this was too hard to do by themselves and they ended up putting themselves front row, third row, anywhere but their own seats!
They then complained when they got moved by the people who were supposed to sit there. It was very disorganised compared to the previous shows that we had been to.
So we sat there…and sat there…and still sat there! Well about half an hour had gone by now. People were still being moved and some hadn’t even arrived. My little brothers had taken to the job of annoying the people behind us, pushing their light wands in people’s faces. Well it kept them occupied and relieved boredom for the rest of us, by having a laugh about it to the expense of the people being annoyed ...but soon we had to act responsible and make them stop. Back to being bored it was then!

So after chatting to two people in front of us for a while the lights finally went down and Shakaya came on stage, not as 'hyped up' as previous shows. They couldn’t get the crowd going, and took to waving at people who clearly didn’t look interested. Well this set the night off for being extremely strange. Twen2y4Se7en weren’t there, much to my disappointment. No explanation was given, maybe because it was an added date they had prior arrangements and couldn't do this venue.

So after an interval that lasted more than twenty minutes, the lights dimmed. My ear drums burst through the screams and whistles and the band appeared on stage. More screams despite the audience probably being oblivious to who they were. Again the music started for Flava, same as the other shows, and Peter appeared wearing a red vest top, like rappers wear, and white trousers. However, despite the man of the night being there, every row in front of us was seated. There was no reason to, but each to their own I suppose. And hey, we got a wicked view from our 9 rows back! So thanks peoples!!
However with the UV lights on, when I turned around to see if it was just us standing, a pair of white trousers caught my eye, someone was slouched on a chair with their feet up, not a care in the world, in the balcony. Guess who? Katie Price! (Jordan). If anyone has heard anything about my brother Mitchell, you’ll know he adores her (and has his own website for her). So when I told him she was there, I got the biggest grin I saw him give all night flashed at me. So he was happy, my other brother Lucas was happy, I was snapping away and mum seemed happy too…all was good!

So he went through doing the same set as at Colchester and Croydon. The only differences to set lists were that he missed Lonely out. (Only reason for that I can think of was that he saw the sea of people sitting down, looking they’d been told there was a council meeting and they got Peter Andre instead, so he skipped it to get off stage quicker!). To be fair the two side aisles were all standing and singing along and enjoying it as were half of the middle section to where we were.
Different outfit

It was just the eight rows in front of us for about ten seats wide that were just sitting there. This crowd missed the warm up that Twen2y4Se7en provided at the other shows!

After around four or five songs Peter changed into a white shirt that was only fastened in the middle so left quite a bit of flesh exposed much to the audiences approval.

When Peter starts to sing You Got Me Thinking he says that he isn't a Ricky Martin but he is going to do some Latino dancing if we will let him. He does some bum wiggling and gets lots of screams. Below are some of the pictures of him dancing.

The audience’s favourite part of the show also happened next. This is the part where he takes someone on the stage. Well the woman that got chosen was next to me, so naturally I got a bit worried when ‘Big Chris’ started gesturing towards me! She got a kiss and cuddle from Peter after he wiped the sweat from his face then he handed her a microphone and she revealed she knew all the words to Never Gonna Give You Up. And she did! She sang along well, whilst also battling for her cowboy hat to stay on that Peter seemed to keep knocking.. Eventually it fell off completely and Peter put it on behind her, as he danced to the front of her she saw it. Anyway, she sang the song really well, Peter left her to get on with it while he entertained his audience for some of it. She got a couple of hugs, got her hat back and returned to her seat. Her daughter seemed proud by nudging me going ‘That’s my mum…YEAH!’ in my ear.

There were a number of different outfits tonight, as well as the white shirt instead of the silver suit (which I’m not a massive fan of) he came on in a much more stylish navy vest with a white cross on it and jeans. This change was during the special acoustic version of The Eagles, Hotel California which he does with his brother Chris, who also sings. Chris plays a great guitar solo again and gets applause and cheers from the crowd, but the ones in front of us still remain seated.
On stage with a lucky fan

He then continues the show and a notable song was a Michael Jackson one called Shake Your Body (down to the ground), most people danced and sung to this one, but a boring few stayed seated. Towards the end of this song Peter introduced the band individually and they all played a sample of what they could do. When it was the turn of the bass player, Mike Choi, Peter sat on the edge of the drummers stage facing Mike and his foot trod on the bass guitars lead and it pinged out. Peter had a laugh and said he would plug it back in and then the bass player did his part! At the end of this Peter said thank you and goodnight and left the stage.

He came back on in yellow t-shirt and jeans and performed Untouchable. During this he saw someone's banner and asked for them to pass it to him. It was just a load of small pictures and ‘We love Peter Andre’ in the middle, but I bet it made their night when he took it and held it up over his face at the end of the song.

Mysterious Girl went down really well, as expected from what I had seen at other shows.

Peter with brother Chris

However, having seen it all before I was more interested in watching Mitchell having a little boogie on his seat! He was really enjoying it until he spotted us looking at him and then went all shy. Mum had carried Lucas down to the front part of the aisle and he was waving and kept shouting 'Peter, Peter', expecting him to look at him. Lucas thinks he did so was happy. Towards the end of Mysterious Girl Peter left the stage while the backing singers and crowd continued singing.

He came back on in his jungle outfit and the jungle part of the show went well too. He mentioned the contestants in the jungle, ending with ‘and Katie Price’ before standing still, crossing his arms and flashing an incredibly cheesy smile at her. But it was ‘so sweeeeet’ according to mum.

Do do do do do.....
You're all Insania!

Well I’m sure Katie wasn’t complaining. Her name was also met by another ear drum-bursting session from the kids. Some even having shoved so many pairs of socks and toilet rolls down their tops it was untrue! Obviously trying to look like Katie (Jordan) but not succeeding. They looked stupid, since when do 13 year olds have boobs that big?!

But even though the staff were pants, half the audience were boring-little-so-and-so’s most of them seemed to enjoy themselves, there was no crushing and people freely walked up and down the aisles to the stage for a few minutes and then went back to their seats, including mum who was taking it in turns with my brothers to take them to the front, but it made it easy for her to do it.

Overall it was a very odd night. It all started when Twen2y4Se7en didn’t show and it carried on through the night. I wouldn’t recommend it as a concert venue unless it’s the last one available for you, as the atmosphere just wasn't there. It wasn't anything to do with Peter and his performance, it was the people there and the venue.

So despite all my whinging and whining, it was a good night for everyone, and my little brothers seemed to have fun too.

Fast asleep before we had even got out of the carpark! Dancing and singing along to Peter's songs An exhausted little boy!
